A 14 year old mentally handicapped boy was found almost dead from dehydration, by a security guard at a South African casino, after his father locked him in the car.
The father 47 locked the by in the car despite the excruciatingly hot temperatures while he went into the casino to gamble.
The man's name was withheld to protect the child.
The event took place on Monday. The security guard that found the boy in a red BMW 318 said the boy was in obvious distress. He tried to get the boy to open the door, but the child indicated he was unable to open the doors.
On Monday in Johannesburg temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius or 86 Fahrenheit.
The guard immediately called the security office and the protection services manager at the casino responded immediately.
As soon as he arrived he saw the child was terribly dehydrated and ordered one of the guards to smash the cars window to get the child out of the car.
The guards had already called the casinos paramedics, who immediately after pulling him from the car gave him an IV to re-hydrate the boy.
"The quick thinking of the guards saved the boy's life said the medic." When the boy had gained his strength back he was able to give the guards his father's name who was immediately contacted over the casinos intercom system.
It only took the father a few minutes to arrive at his car, and witnesses said he just stood there with disbelief in his eyes.
The man was arrested by the North Rand SAPS Emergency Services, and the father will have to appear before the court on charges of child neglect on November 19th.
