The Fort Valley and Byron police and the peach County Sheriffs office served a search warrant on two businesses in the Fort Valley area Thursday night. During the raid police seized $10,000 dollars in illegal gambling proceeds.
Although no arrests were made the case is being handed over to the District Attorney where they will decided if prosecution is warranted or not.
The businesses are being accused of having video gambling machines that are making cash payouts. The machines are only legal for non cash payout such as store merchandise or services.
According to some people in the community the machines are becoming a real drain to the community. Some people are spending their entire paychecks trying to win on these machines. Some places offer nothing more then a soda or a sticky bun, and some places realize no one is going to spend hours playing a machine for a soda and a sticky bun.
Most of the complaints to the police are coming from relatives of those losing all their money to these video gambling machines.
A letter will be sent out to all Fort Valley business with the video gambling machines some time next week notifying all owners that any store caught with an illegal machine will be fined and the owner could face jail and the loss of their business license.
