In an attempt to reverse the American ban on internet gambling the Minister of Finance of Antigua and Barbuda was in the USA this week trying to convince American officials to accept the ruling of the WTO that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act goes against trade agreements signed by the American Government, and to make his feelings herd on the subject.
When the Finance Minister returned from his trip he said he found it remarkable that during his visit he tried to explain that they wanted to work out an agreement that worked for the USA as well as for Antigua and Barbuda, but no one wanted to listen to him.
Online gambling is a major source of income in Antigua and Barbuda, and the governments of these countries make sure that the services they offer are highly regulated to make sure they are fair and honest.
The Finance Minister is deeply worried that without the business of the USA, they will loose the economy that they have been working hard to improve in recent years and has been based on Internet Gambling, and that his people will return to the poverty they had known for years and had hoped was finally gone.
